Djerba
An Immersion in Djerba's Jewish Community
This series is a visual chronicle from March 2002 to January 2004, offering an intimate look into the daily life and traditions of one of the world's oldest Jewish communities in Hara Sghira and Kbira, on the island of Djerba, Tunisia.
My approach was one of immersion, spending time within the community before and after the bomb attack at El Ghriba synagogue to capture not just events, but the quiet essence of its people—their resilience, faith, and enduring spirit. This work stands as a personal document of a unique cultural heritage, captured at a specific moment in time.
